Arbitrary vs. Intentional Approach

In his book, “Fire Department Incident Safety Officer”, Fire Service Instructor/Author Dave Dodson compares “Arbitrary Aggressiveness” to “Intellectual Aggressiveness” in firefighting operations. Arbitrary being defined as, “decisions based on random choice or personal whim, rather than any reason or system”. The intellectual approach on the other hand, requires recognition of predictable dangers and taking steps to reduce risk. This same sentiment may be applied to firefighter fitness and wellness when we talk about a more "intentional" approach.

Our Physical Training Programs, Workouts, Exercises, and Education Modules are specifically designed to help firefighters overcome challenges on and off the job while removing common roadblocks to achieving fitness and performance goals. There is nothing arbitrary about what we do.

For those new to Firefighter Peak Performance, you will notice that there is a learning curve up front. Printing Score Sheets, reviewing Exercise Instruction, calculating Target Heart Rate Zones, reading Training Guides, and scoring your workouts are all important steps in achieving your firefighter fitness and performance goals. We encourage you to follow each step as outlined to get the most out of your training.
